PLEASE HELP MY FAMILY

RachelChere' started this conversation

Daughter of an Alcoholic Father in desperate need of help. My name is Rachel. I'm 31, the oldest child of three. My Father has been an alcoholic for as long as I can remember, a good man with a horrible disease. He worked hard through the years the provide for us, making up for his absence by trying to give his family a good life. After years of "controlled" drinking and being able to hide his addiction from most, the insanity took control, the man who was once a functioning alcoholic became lost to the world and became consumed by the bottle. We lost everything, a family business, our home the list goes on and desperation set in. the impact of loss was so great on my Father that he found his way to Alcoholics Anonymous. The program was a gift to him and to our family, my Father got sober we began to pick up the pieces and in December of 2006 he celebrated 5 years of sobriety. Those five years will forever be cherished as it was the first time in my life that I was able to have a relationship with my Father and begin to understand his disease.

On June 14, 2007 my Mother received a phone call that my Father had relapsed, attempted suicide and was in the hospital. As you can imagine this was devastating to our family, especially my 14 year old brother, Christopher. We had no clue that the insanity of the disease had returned and that my Father was in such a desperate state. Since then many things have come to the surface and we again find ourselves in a desperate time. My mother works for a meager salary three days a week at a Bed and Breakfast. She is trying so hard to take care of my brother and pick of the pieces. My Father left a trail of destruction that we never saw coming. Several bad business deals, lie after lie about everything. In his absence my Mother found that her financial situation was not as he has presented it to her and the family as a whole. Always wanting to be the provider he couldn't bare to let us know that he had again lost a business and there was no money. He was robbing peter to pay paul and it caught up, leaving my Mother with nothing. She will loose her home the end of July, all the bills are behind, and there is no money and no one to help. I have a good job but work for ten dollars an hour. I have a small condo and no means to give them the help they need, I do what I can but that has left me behind with my financial obligations.

I would like to ask for help to get them moved and into a small comfortable home so that they can begin to rebuild without my Father. My brother starts high school this year and deserves a chance to be a child without all the worries of financial instability. I hope that someone full of compassion and understanding for the disease of alcoholism reads this and can help. I will make any arrangements necessary for formal agreement of repayment. I appreciate your consideration.  Rachel
